Enlightenment through Pleasure
Dec 28th
My friend Apollo who is a shamanic astrologer, spoke yesterday about what is coming ahead for us in the next year. While I am a bit of an agnostic about astrology, his discourse tickled my curiosity button. He spoke that we are coming to a time where attention on the body and pleasure will be more available to us. While I don’t remember all the star and planet configurations that he outlined, I do remember, from my teachers in the 90s is that the path of pleasure is incredibly important; especially sensual pleasure. I do know that it has played a crucial role in my own personal evolution.
Annie Sprinkle wrote that, ‘there’s a lot of pain and suffering out there. I think there needs to be more joy, love and orgasms in the world. We are a pleasure negative society. Suffering is much more acceptable. And I want to tell women that they are sexually powerful beings, but they often don’t get in touch with it because they are socialised to please men.”
One of the cruel jokes is that while women may be socialized to please men; men are conditioned to not receive this pleasing.
I think both sexes have a lot to learn from the lessons of pleasure. How much can you love, joy and ecstasy can you receive?
There is a hidden rheostat (or dimmer switch) within you. You may not know it, but you have control over this rheostat. Turning the rheostat one way delivers pain and suffering; and turning it the opposite way creates embodied joy and ecstasy (pleasure). My teachers have told me for a long time that the pleasure we know now can always be increased many fold. So, in fact, the rheostat for pleasure has no end to it. There are higher and higher levels our body can experience. AND, here is the best part, this pleasure can and is our teacher and healer if we allow it. Our dwelling on our suffering does not bring about healing, but turning to our pleasure will.
